To add consistency to all the Smart city projects of the Metropole Nice Côte d’Azur, the ‘Smart City Centre of Excellence’ or ‘CENTREX’ has been created. It is a dedicated governance structure which embodies the Metropole’s aim to develop a crosssectoral approach in the Smart City.

NCA among the top 3 test urban areas to integrate and replicate sustainable Cities
The Metropole Nice Cote d’Azur is among the top 3 French test cities in the European Horizon 2020 programme for the research, development and innovation by winning the European Commission’s SCC-01 call for proposals (innovative cities and communities).

IoT platform

Internet of Things
The IoT platform (the Internet of Things) is part of the strategy to build the digital platform of Metropole Nice Côte d’Azur, started by building an interface bus and by sharing trade data, a GIS, a pooled data warehouse for the urban area and an Open Data portal giving free access to public data.

Urban Environmental Monitoring

(UEM)
Launched in 2014, UEM plans to deploy a network of almost 3,000 sensors and associated networks across a region located to the south of the Plaine du Var.

Smart mobility

From the coast to the hills and highlands, the 49 towns and villages in the Metropole have very different mobility needs. This disparity requires the transport network to be managed by both tailoring the supply in real-time and providing real-time information on traffic conditions.

An attractive multi-modal transport service

Tramway – Lignes 2 & 3
The second tram line with a West-East route (Airport – Nice harbour in 26 minutes) has 20 stations, 4 of which are underground:
It will be supplemented by a major new route, a 3rd tramway service to be built in the Plaine du Var.

Smart security

Urban Hypervision Centre
Created in 2010, the Urban Hypervision Centre has become a tool to help us live well together. It is a shared tool which is available to the various partners: national police, gendarmerie, public prosecutor and SDIS.

An ecosystem of cutting edge companies
As early as 2013, the Metropole Nice Côte d’Azur began to build ties with Sophia-Antipolis initially, then Cannes and Grasse and finally the whole of the department, to reply to the State’s call for certification labels, under the name of ‘French Tech Cote d’Azur.
