The economy, innovation, jobs & international
Metropole Nice Côte d’Azur has entered into partnerships with the world’s largest companies (IBM, Cisco, etc.) to conduct ambitious experiments with communicating sensors in a territory that has become a living lab. This involves all the players in the area: local companies and startups, universities, research laboratories, competitiveness clusters, and elected officials.
With IMREDD (Institut Méditerranéen du Risque de l’Environnement et du Développement Durable), Metropole Nice Côte d’Azur has designed an open technology platform accessible to all partners – the Smart City Innovation Center. It is a meeting place where the R & D of major partner companies join forces on the ideas, concepts and products designed and developed by very small, small and medium sized industries and startups, as well as by research laboratories. Once these new technologies, applications and services have been demonstrated, tested and validated in the territory, a second phase begins, which includes the commercial development of the solutions. The aim is to build up a new business model that will both develop local partners and create new jobs.
A remarkable ecosystem
To ensure the success of these projects, Metropole Nice Côte d’Azur relies on a remarkable ecosystem:
4 aeras of excellence
Collaboration between industry and research, and public and private sectors, positions the territory in four areas of excellence:

From Nice Grid to Interflex, Metropole Nice Côte d’Azur is consolidating its position as the first Smart Grid network in France. The first metropolitan area to equip itself with an urban hypervision center, it is recognized as a smart grid leader.
Along with the Université Côte d’Azur, the IDEX benchmark health center is leading a number of innovative projects in the fields of health, well-being and aging. The headquarters of France Silver Eco, Metropole Nice Côte d’Azur’s ambition is to design the future – and sustainable – European city of health.
Smart city: Metropole Nice Côte d’Azur is the first to have a cross-cutting organization integrating an urban management center and governance dedicated to the theme of the smart city (the Smart City Center of Excellence).
