The economic innovation and internationalization strategy
With a territory historically driven by tourism, Metropole Nice Côte d’Azur is undergoing a major economic transformation. For many years predominantly residential, its economy has been part of the digital and innovation field since 2008. Efforts made with public and private partners have led to the implementation of new ecosystem approaches that are now bearing fruit: initiatives such as the “Excellence Initiative” label awarded to the Université Côte d’Azur, the recognition of the dynamism of start-ups with the award of the French Tech label, a final place in the “European Capital of Innovation” (iCapital 2017) award, and the scheduled opening of CEA Tech all demonstrate this dynamic.
The innovation process, bringing with it a new territorial network, increases this collective “territorial” intelligence and coherently dovetails into the levels of the metropolitan area and the Côte d’Azur. Perfectly in line with the regional economic development, innovation and internationalization strategy (SRDEII – Schéma Régional de Développement Economique d’Innovation et d’Internationalisation) developed by the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region, Metropole Nice Côte d’Azur also has an economic strategy of its own (SMDEII). It is not a prescriptive document but an illustrated structural orientation document that outlines the economic policy for the metropolitan area to 2020.
To highlight the specificities of the metropolitan area and the segments that differentiate its economic activity on the national and European scene, the SMDEII contains more than fifty pages summarizing the concrete and operational achievements of the strategy on the ground.
